• At £40,000 annual salary, paid throughout the full year, for a 39-week working pattern (36 weeks in school and three weeks working from home). This is broadly equivalent to earning approximately £46,000 per annum in a conventional full-time role with around 45 working weeks per year, based on weeks worked.

Job Description
As a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist, you will be the lead Speech and Language Therapist for a specialist secondary-school placement in Eltham, London, SE9. You will take ownership of the school caseload while remaining connected to an experienced and supportive wider clinical team. The caseload primarily consists of verbal autistic secondary-aged students with complex communication needs. You will provide tailored assessment, intervention and practical communication strategies, focusing on social communication, emotional awareness and regulation, self-advocacy, functional communication, relationships and preparation for greater independence.

This school-based allied health role sits within a private education setting and includes private healthcare as part of the benefits package. You will collaborate with Occupational Therapists, Drama Therapists, dyslexia specialists, teachers, teaching assistants, SEND professionals and families to coordinate communication support across therapy, classroom learning and daily school life.

You will work within a wider therapy service that values collaborative assessment, practical communication strategies and supporting school staff and families to achieve meaningful outcomes. You will be encouraged to respect individual communication styles, build on each student’s strengths and adapt your clinical approach to their needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day delivery and continued development of speech and language therapy provision within the school.
• Assess students’ speech, language, communication and functional needs and consider their impact across education and daily life.
• Plan and deliver creative, individualised and neurodiversity-affirming therapy programmes.
• Support students with social communication, emotional regulation, self-advocacy and functional communication.
• Develop meaningful goals collaboratively with students, families, school staff and other professionals.
• Maintain accurate clinical records, therapy plans, progress information and professional documentation.
• Provide practical strategies and guidance that help teaching staff embed communication support throughout the school day.
• Collaborate with Occupational Therapists, Drama Therapists, dyslexia specialists, SEND professionals and families.
• Manage and prioritise the school caseload while maintaining continuity, quality and appropriate follow-up.
• Contribute to staff knowledge, coordinated student outcomes and a safe, inclusive school culture.

Requirements

• Sponsorship / right to work: Applicants must be able to demonstrate their current right to work in the UK.
• Qualification: A recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification with current HCPC registration and appropriate RCSLT professional standing.
• Currently working at a Band 6 level, Suitable clinical experience supporting children or young people, ideally within education, SEND, autism or a comparable specialist setting.
• Specialism: Confidence supporting autistic young people with social communication, emotional regulation, self-advocacy and functional communication needs.
• Capability: Ability to assess complex communication needs, make well-reasoned clinical decisions, plan effective interventions and manage a school caseload.
• Soft skill: A warm, engaging and confident communication style with the ability to build credible and trusting relationships with secondary-aged students.
• Independence: Comfortable leading therapy provision for the school placement while collaborating closely with the wider clinical and multidisciplinary teams.
