Working Hours & Shift Pattern
This Clinical or Counselling Psychologist role is offered on a full-time basis, with part-time (4 days per week) considered. Working hours are primarily weekday-based. The role includes facilitating reflective practice sessions for ward-based staff, which may take place at 7:30am or 7:30pm to support both day and night teams. Flexible working arrangements are available to accommodate these requirements. There are no routine weekend commitments.

Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity for an HCPC-registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join a multidisciplinary psychological therapies team working across male and female adult acute inpatient wards (23 beds) within a private hospital in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire (EN6). You will play a key role in delivering specialist psychological assessments and interventions within a formulation-driven, trauma-informed model of care. The service is evolving, including the development of a new pathway for young adults presenting with complex trauma, offering excellent opportunities to contribute to service development, innovation and clinical leadership. This Clinical or Counselling Psychologist role would suit a psychologist who thrives in collaborative environments, enjoys working with complex presentations and is motivated by high-quality, recovery-focused care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist psychological assessments for adults with acute mental health needs
  • Deliver evidence-based individual and group psychological interventions
  • Undertake diagnostic, cognitive and risk assessments using recognised frameworks
  • Develop and implement formulation-driven care plans in collaboration with the MDT
  • Contribute a specialist psychological perspective within multidisciplinary meetings
  • Monitor and manage clinical risk, ensuring timely documentation and escalation
  • Attend ward rounds, CPA meetings and case conferences as required
  • Prepare high-quality clinical reports, assessments and discharge summaries
  • Facilitate reflective practice sessions for ward-based staff
  • Ensure accurate, timely clinical recording in electronic patient records

Requirements

  • BPS-recognised psychology degree
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Understanding of evidence-based psychological practice
  • Have the right to work within the UK (no sponsorship available for this role). 
  • Experience applying psychological models within mental health settings
  • Experience of inpatient work desirable but not essential
  • Ability to manage a specialist clinical caseload with complex presentations
  • Strong communication, organisational and MDT working skills
  • Suitable for Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist or Practitioner Psychologist
